About Event

As part of the “18.45 Talks | Exceptional Encounters” series, the notion of life as a story of attachment was explored, raising questions about what, where, and to whom we hold on, for what reasons, and how. In this context, it was emphasized that the emotions devoted to the very first moment of encounter are what make these encounters exceptional. A conversation was held around the intention to learn, to teach, to share and be a stakeholder, to be a guest in all forms of life, as well as the journey that led to a passion for antiques and an encounter with Kuzguncuk. Aslı Şekerci’s talk titled “Exceptional Encounters” took place at İskele on Thursday, December 23 at 18:45.

Aslı Altan Şekerci, founder of Dada Kuzguncuk, was born in 1972. Alongside her professional career of over 25 years, she transformed her hobby of collecting antiques into a profession and shared it in Kuzguncuk. Emphasizing the importance of giving new life to “abandoned” objects, Şekerci also aimed to create a space for children at Dada. She received her undergraduate education in Industrial Arts and, since 1996, has designed and coordinated art projects for children at various institutions such as Private Karagözyan Armenian Primary School, İELEV Educational Institutions, and Private Bilfen Sihirli Çan Schools. She also worked for many years within Söz Consultancy on children’s workshops at the Sakıp Sabancı Museum and contributed to the development and implementation of educational programs for children in parallel with major exhibitions such as Rodin, Picasso, Dalí, and Abidin Dino.

Her areas of expertise included promoting art education as a life skill and behavioral culture, integrating museum pedagogy into everyday education, identifying students’ individual differences and learning abilities, and supporting creative production processes with an aesthetic approach.

During the event, HES code checks were conducted, mask use was mandatory, and participation was limited.
