As part of the “Open Studio,” a gathering was held where design students and young professionals came together to work on their projects and benefit from a shared production environment. An expert designer accompanied the participants throughout the event.
The Open Studio took place at Kuzguncuk Pier on Wednesday, January 12, between 16:00–20:00, with the participation of Oğul Öztunç, co-founder of Piknik Works. As part of the application process, participants were asked to submit a statement of intent not exceeding 250 words, and the capacity was limited to 12 people.
During the event, HES code checks were conducted and mask use was mandatory.
Piknik Works has produced work at the intersection of art, architecture, and visual communication design, developing contemporary design interpretations through the relationships it has established between these fields. Founded in 2017 by Atıl Aggündüz and Oğul Öztunç, Piknik has completed numerous architectural design, art, and research projects; its work has been exhibited on national and international platforms and has received various awards.
Oğul Öztunç graduated from the Architecture Department of Istanbul Technical University in 2014 with the Best Graduation Project Award and was awarded first prize in the Archiprix competition the same year. In 2015, through a travel grant he received, he conducted extensive observations on everyday life and architectural culture in Japan. Following his graduation, he worked at the Faculty of Architecture at Bilgi University until 2018, contributing to architectural drawing and design studios. For more than five years, he has continued his work within Piknik Works, which he co-founded, while also leading research practices such as the Urban Research Bureau of Everyday Life Detectives and Drawing-Based Construction Experiments.
