About Event

MVRDV Public & Interiors | MVRDV was founded in 1993 by Winy Maas, Jacob van Rijs and Nathalie de Vries. MVRDV is an architectural office based in Rotterdam that offers solutions to contemporary architectural and urban problems in all regions of the world. Fokke Moerel, one of the MRDV partners, personally aims to work on the design and realization of semi-public buildings, renovations of monumental buildings that can enliven neighborhoods, and buildings that have a strong connection and influence directly with their surroundings.

Fokke Moerel will be at Iskele on Tuesday, February 8th at 19.00 with her speech titled “MVRDV Public & Interiors”, where we will listen to her personal architectural practice with a selection of her projects at MRDV.

HES code control and mask use are mandatory in our event.

This event is organized as part of the “İskele Tasarım Hızlandırma Projesi”. “İskele Tasarım Hızlandırma Projesi” is financially supported by İSTKA (Istanbul Development Agency). The executive of the project is the Turkish Design Council. The partners of the project are Uskudar Municipality, Istanbul Chamber of Industry and ITU ARI Teknokent.

Fokke Moerel

MVRDV partner Fokke Moerel (Breda, 1970) was one of the first architects to join MVRDV in 1998. She leads projects with a focus on public and cultural works, transformations and interior design all around the globe. Fokke has completed award-winning designs such as the Baltyk office tower in Poznan, Poland, the Book Mountain Library in Spijkenisse and the Lloyd Hotel & Cultural Embassy in Amsterdam. Within her studio she also leads the interior design team at MVRDV and she is overseeing the construction of Depot Boijmans Van Beuningen, the first publicly accessible art depot in the world, which will open its doors in 2021 in Rotterdam.
Why does she love the spirit of MVRDV? “I am strongly attached to the office’s mission to not exclude anyone or anything. It brings a wide diversity of challenges which can lead to unconventional and innovative possibilities – always inspiring and fun.” Fokke’s personal drive is to collaborate on the design and realization of buildings which have a strong connection to and impact on their direct surroundings, such as (semi) public buildings, refurbishments of monumental buildings which can revive their neighbourhood, and buildings with a clear end-user.
Fokke holds a master’s degree in architecture from the Academy of Architecture Rotterdam, and a BA in interior architecture from the Willem de Kooning Academy. Fokke has taught at Harvard and Cambridge together with MVRDV cofounder Nathalie de Vries, and at the Silpakorn University in Bangkok, Thailand. She is currently tutoring at The Hague Royal Academy of Arts and is an external critic at the Academy of Architecture Rotterdam.
