18.45 Talks | Undeniable Reflection • The talk featured glass artist Egemen Kemal Vuruşan and explored how his relationship with glass throughout the design and production processes is reflected in his art and functional product designs. Undeniable Reflection took place at İskele on Thursday, September 29th, at 18.45.
Egemen Kemal Vuruşan was born in Basel, Switzerland, in 1992. He completed his undergraduate and graduate studies in the Department of Ceramic and Glass Design at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University. He later worked with and assisted internationally renowned hot-glass artists at the Glass Furnace Foundation, including Karen Willenbrink, Jason Willenbrink, Tim Shaw, Rob Stern, Jiri Pacinek, Raven Skyriver, Charles Lowrie, Janusz Pozniak and Grant Garmezy. His works have been exhibited at numerous galleries and fairs in Türkiye and abroad. In 2015, which he describes as a turning point in his career, he received scholarships to study free-forming techniques in hot glass at three of the leading glass institutions in the United States: the Corning Museum of Glass, Penland School of Craft and Pilchuck Glass School. He continued his practice at Dallas Glass Art between 2016 and 2017. From 2017 to 2019, he taught glass courses in the Department of Ceramic and Glass at Marmara University’s Faculty of Fine Arts. In 2019, he founded his own design brand, Usta Design. He continues his career in Istanbul through various conceptual, design and installation projects.
