Humanity has witnessed many epidemics throughout history. The most important of these is the Plague Outbreak that caused great destruction in Europe between 1347 and 1351. We talked about the plague epidemics in Istanbul with Associate Professor Nükhet Varlık, who teaches Ottoman Empire history and medical history lessons. Although the outbreaks have lost and will lose their power at some point, we have examined the traces they left in social life, the changed routines, the newly acquired habits, the measures taken and their individual and social responses to them from the perspective of Istanbul.
