DESCRIPTION:As part of the “City Talks” series\, a talk titled “The Formation of Contemporary Istanbul: 1950–...” by Architect and Urban Planner Prof. Dr. Murat Güvenç was held at İskele on Saturday\, January 22 at 14:00.\r\nIt was emphasized that the 1950s marked a period of exploration\, questioning\, and “learning by doing” across many fields\; and that many of Istanbul’s present-day morphological and structural characteristics were shaped during this time\, leaving lasting traces. The talk addressed the concepts and principles of the city from the 1950s—considered a significant turning point in Türkiye’s urbanization and urban history—to contemporary Istanbul.\r\nDuring the event\, HES code checks were conducted\, mask use was mandatory\, and participation was limited.\r\nProf. Dr. Murat Güvenç was born in Istanbul in 1953. He graduated from Istanbul St. Joseph French High School and received both his undergraduate (1976) and master’s degrees from the Department of City and Regional Planning at the Middle East Technical University (METU) Faculty of Architecture.
