Hope Cities project was started with Design for ITU, Perkins + Will and Hasan Kalyoncu University. based on the question of: “How we can provide better shelters and environments for the refugees?”
Design students who desired to find sustainable solutions towards real world problems, aimed to figure out how alternative inhabitation units to the existing refugee containers can be designed and produced. To examine the problem on-site, we visited refugee camps at Nizip and the city of Gaziantep. And the real problem was an unsustainable urban integration instead of a living unit. So we tried come up with a flexible, easily integrated urban model which can respond rapid urban displacements in emerging city zones. The model aims to refund the initial costs as cultural, social and urban infrastructures in the long term.
